Registered Nurse, Life Coach
Betty was born in Tehran, the capital of Iran. She came into the world as one member of a big family, with pillars built on strong religious principles. She finished her schooling in Tehran and went to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences for her undergrad in Nursing. She got married and moved to Toronto, Canada in June of 2004 with her family. She pursued her passion and took complementary educational courses in Canada and eventually started working as a nurse in downtown Toronto. Later on, she got into the aesthetic sciences and began working in a clinic for a number of years. Her life took a drastic turn when she went through a divorce, which led her down the writing journey, getting her started in writing her memoir, all while obtaining her life coach certificate.

Not Simply Broken, by Betty Khalili, is a wonderful book about one woman's soulful attempt to make sense of the changes in her life. Her message is to try not to shatter apart if you're in a bad situation when life is hard hitting and dismal.

The author’s description of the people in her
book is incredibly detailed. Sometimes I quarreled with them, sometimes I shed
tears with them, and sometimes I held their hands tightly into my own… In this
book, I realized how alone we truly are as humans — whether we are the
oppressor or the oppressed. I also realized that the same loneliness ultimately
leads to the discovery of meaning and depth in life.

Some people cross paths in mere serendipity. Some people’s souls connect with no real explanation why. I felt this way with Betty Khalili and her story hit my soul. Betty understands that you must go through your struggles and pains, feel them, experience them, but overcome them. She demonstrates this so well in her memoir.
